THE WOMAN ON THE PAINTED HORSE

A young woman desperate to save lives. A young man hungry with greed and betrayl. A brave soul searching for love. And a nation torn apart by politics. THE WOMAN ON THE PAINTED HORSE weaves through the social issues in Deep South 1861. A time where blackmail, money, and greed could be more powerful than love.

Cradling an infant in her arms, Alexandra Monroe rips through the Alabama forest with four stolen slaves behind her. She is a slave smuggler who helps slaves escape north to their freedom. Her crime is sedition and her punishment, if caught, would be death.

The daughter of one of the wealthiest men in Montgomery, seventeen year old, Alexandra lives a life not by her own accord in an arranged courtship with Thomas Ludlow. Though she desires to refuse him, she willingly accepts him. She is in desperate need of money for her underground railroad and believes the town’s most eligible, powerful bachelor is the perfect solution to her problem.

Thomas is a charming young man who hides his dark cruelty, love of blackmail, and family secrets – secrets that affect not only the very country Alexandra lives in, but her own life. With the outcome of the Civil War unknown plantation owners feared losing their slaves if the war was lost to the North, and President Jefferson Davis’s acts are of concern to the wealthy families of society, especially Thomas and Alexandra’s father.

One afternoon, Alexandra comes face to face with handsome, captivating William Graysden. Although William is forbidden because he is a Creek Indian, he and Alexandra fascinate one another and find a bond they don’t wish to ignore, but after damaging events and everyone’s refusal to accept them, William is forced to face the choice to continue the dangerous pursuit of Alexandra’s affections or forget about her.
